Our Mission and Vision
Strategic Directions
The Gap UC’s Strategic Directions and Guiding Principles
The Strategic Directions of The Gap Uniting Church flow from the Mission Consultation carried out in August 2007 and involve leaders and members of the congregation. The four Strategic Directions provide a clear focus for mission and endeavour as the congregation moves forward as part of The Gap community. The sharp focus provided by the directions allows both the congregation and members to concentrate effort and maximise the impact of God’s work in The Gap.
To support the implementation of the strategic directions and of the goals, the Mission Consultation identified a set of Guiding Principles to be used by leaders and members as they worked towards our goals:
Strategic Directions
- Growing our mission with the local and international community
- Growing our mission and ministry with young people
- Growing our congregation ministry to young families
- Growing the sense of belonging through welcoming/relationship strategies
- Encouraging the use of God-given gifts and talents in ministry and in the life of the church.
The Gap Uniting Church Guiding Principles
- Primarily, we seek to serve people in the community and to build a reputation as a serving Church.
- Leaders and members are empowered to take initiatives in the pursuit of the strategic directions.
- We encourage spontaneity as well as planning in the way activities happen.
- We recognise the limitations of rigid programs of activity and encourage the use of one-off project events.
Our Mission
1) KNOWING GOD
To know the love of God and to serve Jesus Christ with the Bible as our authority and God's Holy Spirit as our strength.
2) BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
To actively encourage people to strengthen their relationship with God and each other.
3) NUTURING SPIRITUAL GROWTH
To nurture one another in spiritual growth, build each other up in faith and love.
4) CELEBRATING AND WORSHIPPING
To celebrate the life change power of God through innovative contemporary worship.
5) GROWING OUR CONGREGATION
To create opportunities for a growing number of people to experience the power of Jesus Christ.
6) REACHING OUT
To share the wider responsibilities of the Church.
7) DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP
To nurture and develop leadership in all areas of ministry.
